Remember The Blind Side starring Sandra Bullock? The movie showed how a kid who had an extremely rough upbringing got help from the family of a school friend, found success in football and ultimately ended up being adopted by the family. Turns out he was never adopted.
Michael Oher says that he was tricked by the Tuohy family into signing documents that made them his conservators. Since he was already 18 at the time the family told him, “that it means pretty much the exact same thing as 'adoptive parents,' but that the laws were just written in a way that took [his] age into account.”
Oher also says that papers were signed so that his story and likeness were given away for free to use in The Blind Side. He also never got a single royalty check for the hugely successful, Oscar nominated film in the 14 years since its release.
It just continues to baffle me that they essentially purchased a young Black man's life to make football money off of, like buying a racing horse, except a person. Like, I don't know how else to say it. And then made everyone think it was something wonderful they did to "save" an "impoverished, Black boy", and he's been saying it for years to no avail that they took advantage of him!

Trying to convince my gf an Adam Sandler film called Backyard Dad exists
Not working but it's fun
The plot of Backyard Dad is that Adam Sandler's character (the Backyard Dad), got divorced from his wife, and when he was told to move out, he faked it and decided to secretly camp in the backyard of his now ex-wife's home
When the kids are scheduled to visit him, they simply sneak into the Backyard to "camp".
In the film, hijinks ensue when his ex-wife gets a new boyfriend, and he kinda spies on them unintentionally while living in the backyard
my gf knows its a lie but has told me of things i've drunkenly said about backyard dad
- I called it very "avant garde", and it was clear that i had no idea what this means
- there's a "very funny scene" where Backyard Dad is spying on the boyfriend and ex-wife through a window at night, and he has to replicate their shadows as to not be caught spying.
- I've mentioned specifically that "when the boyfriend is holding the ruler at his waist though.. you know what that means for Backyard Dad!"
- Barack Obama and Jack Black star in it as stunt doubles
- The "avant garde" portion may relate to a drug trip scene with Backyard dad, where he decided to make wild mushroom risotto for dinner with his kids (it was only Backyard Dad who ate this risotto, there was apparently a funny scene of the kids sneaking into the kitchen and getting snacks)
